Australia Route: Notary, DFAT, then the UAE Embassy in Canberra
Australian documents pass through three stages before they can be used in the UAE:
- Notary or issuing authority. Private documents, and copies of some public documents, are signed or certified by an Australian notary public first. Public documents such as birth and marriage certificates from a state registry can often go straight to the next step.
- DFAT authentication. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade authenticates the notary's or official's signature.
- UAE Embassy in Canberra. The embassy legalizes the document and now completes the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) attestation digitally at the same time, so the document is normally ready for UAE use when it arrives.
Degrees and transcripts from Australian universities usually need the university's certification or a notarized copy before DFAT. If a UAE authority needs the document in Arabic, our MOJ-certified legal translators complete the translation after legalization. For the embassy's digital step, see UAE Embassy attestation; for the MOFA side, see MOFA attestation.
Sending Australian Documents: From Australia or From the UAE
Australian customers usually fall into two groups. Some still have the original in Australia (a family member holds the degree, or the registry posts a fresh certificate), and it can be couriered from there. Others have the original with them in the UAE and hand it to our office in Al Twar, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or Ras Al Khaimah. Either way, the photo you send on WhatsApp tells us whether a notary is needed before DFAT, and the written quote follows within 10–30 minutes.
We then coordinate the notary, DFAT and the UAE Embassy in Canberra while you track progress online, and the attested document is delivered free to your door or our office in the UAE. Documents from other countries are listed on our attestation services page.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I attest an Australian certificate for the UAE?
Australian documents are notarised where needed and authenticated by DFAT in Australia, then legalised by the UAE Embassy in Canberra, which now completes the UAE MOFA attestation digitally in the same step — so no separate MOFA attestation in the UAE is needed in most cases. Wordcraft manages the full chain and any Arabic translation.
How much does Australian certificate attestation cost?
It depends on the document and the DFAT/embassy fees. Wordcraft gives a fixed all-in quote up front.
How long does it take?
Typically 5–10 working days including the Australia step; express handling is available.
Which Australian documents can be attested?
Degrees, diplomas, transcripts, birth/marriage certificates, police checks and commercial documents.
