Switzerland certificate attestation in UAE is needed before a Swiss diploma, civil-status document, criminal-record extract or company record can be used for a UAE visa, job, license or corporate filing. The document is legalized by the canton, then at federal level, then by the UAE Embassy in Bern. Wordcraft coordinates every step and the Arabic legal translation, with a free written quote within 10–30 minutes.
Cantons, Languages and a Two-Level Legalization
Swiss bankers, wealth managers, hoteliers, engineers and pharmaceutical specialists are well represented in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and many Swiss companies and family offices have set up in the UAE's financial free zones. Swiss paperwork reflects the federal system: documents are issued at cantonal level, often in the canton's language, and legalization usually needs both a cantonal and a federal step before the UAE Embassy.
Switzerland is a member of the Apostille Convention, the UAE is not, so a Swiss apostille does not make a document valid here (see why the UAE does not accept apostilles). We map each document's route, starting with the canton that issued it.
Swiss Legalization Steps for the UAE
- Notarization, where needed. Private documents such as powers of attorney, employment references or board resolutions are usually signed before, or certified by, a Swiss notary.
- Cantonal legalization. The competent authority of the canton where the document was issued or notarized legalizes the signature.
- Federal legalization. The cantonal signature is then legalized at federal level for use outside the Apostille Convention.
- UAE Embassy in Bern. Legalization for use in the UAE. The Bern embassy now normally adds the UAE MOFA attestation digitally, which usually removes the need for a separate MOFA attestation inside the UAE.
- Arabic legal translation, after which the file goes to the UAE authority.
The exact route for your document is confirmed before work begins. Our UAE embassy attestation page shows how the embassy's digital step works.

German, French or Italian Into Arabic
Most Swiss documents we receive are in German and go to our German legal translation team. Documents from French-speaking cantons go to our French legal translation team, and Italian documents from Ticino to our Italian legal translators. All are completed by MOJ-certified legal translators and include every stamp and legalization, so the Arabic matches the attested original.
Documents to Send for a Swiss File
- The original Swiss document (recent civil-status documents are often requested)
- Holder's passport copy
- Diploma supplement or transcript, where the UAE authority requires it
- For company documents: a recent commercial register extract and the signatory's passport copy
- Emirates ID copy (UAE residents)
- A signed authorization letter
Scan and send on WhatsApp or email, or visit our Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or Ras Al Khaimah office. The timeline depends on the document, the canton, any notarization and processing at federal level and at the embassy in Bern, and your quote states it for your document.

Frequently Asked Questions: Swiss Documents in the UAE
Is a Swiss apostille accepted in the UAE?
No. Swiss documents for the UAE go through cantonal and federal legalization and then the UAE Embassy in Bern.
My document was issued in Geneva, but I live in Zurich. Does that matter?
Yes. Cantonal legalization is normally done by the canton that issued or notarized the document, not the canton where you live, and we plan the route around that.
Which language will the Arabic translation be made from?
From the language of the attested document, usually German, French or Italian. Our MOJ-certified legal translators cover all three.
Is a separate MOFA attestation needed after the UAE Embassy in Bern?
In most cases no. The Bern embassy includes the MOFA attestation digitally, which the quote confirms.
How long does Switzerland certificate attestation take?
It depends on the document, the canton and any notarization. You get a realistic estimate in the free quote.
