Power of attorney attestation in UAE makes a POA signed in one country legally usable in another. A POA signed abroad needs home-country authentication and UAE Embassy legalization before a UAE bank, court or land department will act on it. A POA signed in the UAE needs MOFA attestation before it can be used abroad. Wordcraft arranges both directions, with a free written quote within 10–30 minutes.

This page is about attesting a POA that already exists. If the POA still has to be drafted and signed before a notary in the UAE, start with our power of attorney drafting and notarization service.

POA Signed Abroad for Use in the UAE

A POA signed in India, Pakistan, the UK, Egypt or anywhere else has no effect in the UAE until it is legalized. The chain generally looks like this:

  • you sign before a notary public in the country where you are;
  • that country's competent authority authenticates the notary's signature (for example the state authority and then the MEA in India, or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Pakistan);
  • the UAE Embassy or Consulate there legalizes the POA, and under the digital system it records the UAE MOFA attestation at the same time, so the POA normally goes straight to use once it reaches the UAE (details on our UAE embassy attestation page);
  • the POA is translated into Arabic, because UAE courts and most government departments work in Arabic.

Send us the draft before you sign abroad. Many POAs fail in the UAE because the wording is too general, the powers do not match the task (selling one specific property, for instance), or the names differ from the passports. A draft check now saves a second visit to a notary overseas.

UAE POA for Use Abroad

If you live in the UAE and need someone at home to sell land, run a bank account, deal with an inheritance or appear in court for you, you can sign the POA here. The usual chain is:

  • signature before a UAE notary public, at a court, with a licensed private notary or through the official remote notarization service, which Wordcraft books for you;
  • MOFA attestation in the UAE, now issued digitally and verifiable online;
  • legalization by the destination country's embassy or consulate in the UAE, where that country asks for it;
  • a translation into the language the receiving office abroad works in, when required.

Personal vs Commercial POA

A personal POA is signed by an individual for property, bank accounts, vehicles, family matters, visa and school files, or litigation. A commercial POA is signed for a company, for example to appoint the manager of a UAE branch, authorize a PRO to deal with government departments, or let someone sign contracts. Commercial POAs usually travel with company papers: a board resolution approving the POA, the certificate of incorporation or trade license, and proof of the signatory's authority. Those often need attesting too, and we list exactly which ones so the file is accepted first time.

What to Prepare for POA Attestation

  • The signed and notarized POA, or the draft if you have not signed yet
  • Passport copies of the principal (who gives the power) and the attorney (who receives it)
  • Emirates ID copies for any party who lives in the UAE
  • For property POAs: the title deed or the property details
  • For commercial POAs: the trade license or certificate of incorporation, the board resolution and the signatory's passport
  • A signed letter authorizing our partners to complete the steps in the other country

From Draft Check to Delivery

  1. Draft or document review: send the POA, or its draft, with the two countries involved, and we reply with a written quote and the route within 10–30 minutes.
  2. Signing and collection: we book the UAE notary if you sign here, or collect the signed original from you at no charge.
  3. Authentication and legalization: our partners handle the overseas notary, ministry and embassy steps while you watch progress online.
  4. Translation and hand-over: the attested POA and its Arabic version go to you or directly to your attorney.

A POA used in the UAE almost always needs Arabic. Our power of attorney translation is prepared by MOJ-certified legal translators after attestation, so the legalization stamps are covered. Where the receiving authority prefers a bilingual POA, we can prepare the Arabic–English text before signing, which removes the need for a separate translation later.

Who Uses POA Attestation

  • UAE residents who need a relative to act for them at home; see our guides for India and Pakistan
  • Owners abroad selling, buying or letting UAE property through a representative
  • Heirs abroad dealing with an estate in the UAE
  • Foreign companies appointing a manager or PRO for a UAE branch
  • Litigants who need a lawyer or relative to represent them in court

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a POA signed abroad valid in the UAE?

Only once it has been notarized, authenticated in the country of signing and legalized by the UAE Embassy there. In most cases it must also be translated into Arabic.

Once the UAE Embassy has legalized my foreign POA, does it still go to MOFA?

Usually not. The UAE mission that legalizes the POA now records the UAE MOFA attestation digitally in the same step. We confirm the route for your country in the free quote.

Can Wordcraft notarize my POA?

No, Wordcraft is not a notary. We draft the POA, arrange the signing before a UAE notary public, and then handle attestation and translation.

Why was my POA rejected?

Typical reasons are wording that does not clearly cover the task, names that differ from the passports, missing company authority for a commercial POA, a skipped attestation step, or no Arabic translation. Send us the document and we will tell you what to fix.

How long does POA attestation take?

It depends on the two countries and the authorities in each. Your written quote gives the expected timing for your POA.

Is an apostilled POA accepted in the UAE?

Not on its own. If the country where you sign issues apostilles, that stamp is at most one of the steps there; the UAE Embassy or Consulate in that country must still legalize the POA before it can be used here.

Can one POA cover several tasks, such as a property sale and a bank account?

It can, but UAE authorities prefer specific powers. A land department usually wants the property identified, and banks often ask for their own wording. We review the draft against every authority you plan to use it with.
