MOFA attestation in Abu Dhabi is the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs' check of the signature and seal on a document, so it is accepted abroad or by UAE authorities. UAE-issued documents are first attested by the entity that issued them, then by MOFA; documents issued abroad are attested through the UAE mission in that country.

MOFA attestation is now digital
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs now issues attestations digitally, with online verification instead of paper stickers. For a document issued in the UAE (a degree from a UAE university, a commercial document or a notarized power of attorney), the issuing authority's step comes first, then MOFA, then the destination country's embassy if the document is going abroad. For a document issued abroad, the UAE embassy in that country now completes the MOFA attestation digitally in the same step in most cases, so no separate MOFA step is needed in Abu Dhabi. We confirm which route applies to your document in your free quote.

How long each step takes
The times below are the ones the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs publishes for its own service. Steps handled by other authorities depend on that authority, and we confirm the full timeline for your document in writing before we start.

|---|---|---|
| Check the document, the destination country and the right route | Wordcraft Abu Dhabi team | Depends on the document; confirmed in your quote |
| Attestation by the UAE entity that issued the document, where required | The issuing government entity | Depends on that entity |
| Arabic legal translation, if the document is not in Arabic or English | Wordcraft's MOJ-certified legal translators | Depends on length and language |
| MOFA digital attestation (eligible UAE-issued digital documents) | UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs | Within 2 hours during official working hours |

| Attestation of a document issued outside the UAE, by courier | The UAE mission in the issuing country | Up to 7 business days |
| Legalisation by the destination country's embassy, if that country requires it | The destination country's embassy | Depends on the embassy |
Which MOFA route applies, digital or courier, is decided automatically by MOFA based on the issuing authority and the document type.
Documents you need, by case
| Your case | What to send us |
|---|---|
| UAE university degree or transcript for use abroad | The original degree and transcript with any attestation the issuing entity requires, a passport copy, and the country where it will be used |
| UAE birth or marriage certificate for use in your home country | The original certificate (or the original digital PDF with its QR code or reference number), passport copies of the people named, and the destination country |
| Power of attorney or affidavit signed in Abu Dhabi for use abroad | The draft or the notarized document, the signatory's passport and Emirates ID copies, and the destination country |
| Company documents (trade licence, board resolution, memorandum of association) | The document certified by the authority that issued it, a trade licence copy, the authorised signatory's ID copy, and the destination country |
| Document issued outside the UAE for use in Abu Dhabi | The original with the UAE mission's attestation from the issuing country, plus a passport copy if it needs Arabic translation |
MOFA's own rules apply to every case: documents must be in Arabic or English or come with a legally certified translation, must not be laminated, and digital documents must be the original PDF from the issuer (not a scan or photo) with a verification feature such as a QR code, barcode or reference number. One application covers up to five documents on the same route. Commercial invoices and certificates of origin go through a separate MOFA system (eDAS), not this service.
Abu Dhabi authorities: who does what
- UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA): attests the signatures and seals on documents issued inside or outside the UAE. Applications are made online through the MOFA website or app with UAE PASS, and the service is available 24/7. Finished attestations can be checked on MOFA Verify.
- Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) notaries: powers of attorney, declarations and contracts signed in Abu Dhabi are notarized before MOFA attests them for use abroad. ADJD's English Notary Services Bureau notarizes English-language documents, including all types of power of attorney, contracts, declarations and board resolutions, without an Arabic translation, through ADJD's online notary portal.
- UAE missions abroad: for a document issued outside the UAE, the UAE embassy or consulate in that country handles the attestation; check that mission's website to see whether it accepts online submission.
Wordcraft is not a government office and not a notary. We prepare and translate your documents, arrange the notarization, and submit the attestation application on your behalf, then return the attested document to you.
Areas we serve in Abu Dhabi: collection and delivery across Abu Dhabi city, including Hamdan Street, Al Khalidiyah, Al Reem Island, Al Raha, Khalifa City, Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Mussafah, Yas Island and Saadiyat Island. For other parts of the emirate, ask us when you order.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get MOFA attestation in Abu Dhabi?
UAE-issued documents are attested by the issuing authority and then by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) — now issued digitally with online verification. For documents issued abroad, the UAE Embassy in the issuing country now completes the MOFA attestation digitally in the same step, so no separate MOFA visit is needed in most cases. Wordcraft’s Abu Dhabi office handles the full chain — including any required Arabic legal translation — and returns your attested document to you.
How much does MOFA attestation cost in Abu Dhabi?
Wordcraft gives you a fixed all-in quote before starting — no surprises.
How long does MOFA attestation take in Abu Dhabi?
UAE-issued documents such as birth and marriage certificates are attested by MOFA online, usually within an hour. For other documents we confirm the timing in your quote before we start.
Do you collect and deliver in Abu Dhabi?
Yes — we offer document pickup and delivery across Abu Dhabi so you don’t need to visit in person.
Can I get MOFA attestation online in Abu Dhabi?
Yes. MOFA takes applications through its website and app, with UAE PASS login, 24 hours a day. Eligible UAE-issued digital documents go through digital attestation; other documents go through an approved courier, who collects the original. MOFA decides the route automatically from the issuing authority and document type. We can prepare and submit the application for you.
Do I need to visit a MOFA office in Abu Dhabi?
Usually not. MOFA applications are made online, digital documents are attested without paper, and paper originals are collected by an approved courier. If you prefer, bring the document to our Hamdan Street office or send clear photos on WhatsApp first, and our team handles the application and returns the attested document to you.
My certificate was issued abroad. Do I still need MOFA attestation in Abu Dhabi?
For a document issued outside the UAE, the attestation is handled by the UAE embassy or consulate in the issuing country, and MOFA processes it through its missions abroad. In most cases no separate MOFA step is needed once you arrive in Abu Dhabi. We check the stamps on your document and tell you if anything is missing.
How can I check whether a MOFA attestation is genuine?
MOFA runs an online checking service, MOFA Verify, at verify.mofa.gov.ae. You enter the attestation reference number and the issue date to see the document status. Employers, universities and authorities in Abu Dhabi can use the same check, which is why digital attestations no longer need a paper sticker.
Does my document need to be in Arabic for MOFA attestation?
MOFA accepts documents in Arabic or English. A document in any other language needs a legally certified translation. Our MOJ-certified legal translators in the Abu Dhabi office prepare Arabic legal translations, so the translation and the attestation can be handled together under one order.
Can a laminated certificate be attested by MOFA?
No. MOFA states that documents must not be laminated. If your certificate has been laminated, contact the authority or institution that issued it about a replacement or certified copy before you apply. Tell us early, because this can add time that depends on the issuing authority.
Can I attest several documents in one MOFA application?
Yes, up to five documents in one application, as long as they all use the same attestation route. Documents on different routes need separate applications. An application cannot be edited after submission, the destination country cannot be changed later, and a rejected application must be submitted again as a new one, so details need to be right first time.
Can an English power of attorney be notarized in Abu Dhabi without translation?
Yes. The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department runs an English Notary Services Bureau that notarizes English-language documents, including powers of attorney, contracts and declarations, without an Arabic translation. If the document will be used abroad, MOFA attestation follows. Wordcraft is not a notary: we draft the document and arrange the notarization and attestation.
