Divorce certificate translation in Dubai is needed when a divorce granted in one country has to be relied on in another, for remarriage, custody, a visa change or a name change. Wordcraft translates divorce certificates, decrees, talaq and khula documents into Arabic for UAE courts and authorities, and UAE divorce judgments into English, as MOJ-certified legal translations, handled discreetly.

A foreign decree may be needed by a UAE court before a remarriage or custody case, by the residency authorities when a visa is canceled or transferred, or by a bank updating its records. An Arabic UAE judgment may be needed abroad to change a name, remarry or register the divorce at home. A photo of the first page on WhatsApp is enough for a written quote within 10–30 minutes.

When a Translated Divorce Decree Is Needed

  • Remarriage in the UAE, where the court or marriage office needs proof that the earlier marriage has ended
  • Custody, visitation and maintenance cases before the UAE personal-status courts
  • Residence visa changes, such as cancelling a former spouse's sponsorship or moving children to the other parent's sponsorship
  • Name changes on passports, bank accounts and employment records
  • Inheritance and property matters where marital status affects the outcome
  • Registering a UAE divorce abroad, with the home country's civil registry, court or embassy

Foreign Divorce Decrees Before UAE Personal Status Courts

UAE courts work in Arabic, so a divorce decree issued abroad in English or another language needs a certified Arabic legal translation before it is filed. First, though, the decree should be authenticated in the country that issued it and legalized by the UAE Embassy there; the embassy now records the UAE MOFA attestation digitally at the same time. Because the UAE is outside the Apostille Convention, a decree carrying only an apostille is normally not accepted as it stands.

How a foreign divorce is treated in a UAE case is a legal question for the court and your lawyer, and it can depend on the parties and the type of divorce. Our job is to make sure the translation is complete and exact: the court that issued the decree, the case number, the dates, the terms on custody and maintenance, and any endorsements or finality certificates. We translate talaq and khula documents, civil divorce decrees, decrees absolute and certificates of divorce from many countries, and we mark any part of a stamp that cannot be read rather than guessing. For full judgments with reasoning, see court judgment translation.

Custody, Remarriage and Visa Changes

Divorce often sets off a chain of paperwork. A remarriage file may need the translated divorce decree together with a translated marriage certificate from the earlier marriage. A custody or travel dispute may need school letters, medical records and messages translated as evidence. A parent who wants to confirm facts formally, such as marital status or consent, may need a sworn declaration; our notary team can prepare and arrange sworn affidavits. We can plan the translations for the whole file at once, so names, dates and case numbers match across every document.

UAE Divorce Documents for Use Abroad

A divorce judgment or certificate issued by a UAE court is in Arabic. To use it in another country, it is usually translated into English or the destination language, attested by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and, where required, by the destination country's embassy. A few countries insist on their own sworn or accredited translators, and your quote tells you if yours is one of them. Our MOFA attestation team can handle the attestation alongside the translation.

Starting a Divorce Certificate Translation: What to Send

  1. Scan every page of the decree or certificate, including reverse sides, finality endorsements and court stamps, with both parties' passports for the name spellings.
  2. Check the attestation. If the decree was issued abroad and is going to a UAE court, it should already carry home-country authentication and UAE Embassy legalization. If it does not, we explain the route for that country.
  3. Tell us the reader (a court, a marriage office or an authority in another country) so the certified format fits and case numbers carry over exactly.
  4. Confirm the quote. A legal translator translates, a second linguist rereads the custody and maintenance terms, and an MOJ-licensed legal translator certifies the result. The file is emailed to you privately, and stamped copies can be couriered to any emirate at no charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a foreign divorce decree need attestation before it is translated?

Usually. It is authenticated where it was issued and legalized by the UAE Embassy there (MOFA attestation is now part of that step), and only then translated into Arabic.

Will a UAE court recognize my foreign divorce?

Recognition is for the court to decide, and your lawyer can advise on it. What we control is the Arabic translation: complete, certified and in the format the court expects.

Can you translate a talaq nama or a khula decree?

Yes. Talaq nama, khula decrees and civil divorce decrees are translated into Arabic or English, with any unreadable part of a stamp marked rather than guessed.

Can you translate a UAE divorce judgment into English for use abroad?

Yes. We translate the Arabic judgment and can arrange UAE MOFA attestation, plus the destination embassy where it is required.

Who sees my divorce papers?

Only the translator and reviewer on your order. Personal-status files are kept on a need-to-know basis, and an NDA is available on request.
