Canada Route: Notary, Global Affairs Canada, then the UAE Embassy in Ottawa
Canadian documents go through three stages before UAE use:
- Notary or issuing authority. Private documents, and copies of documents such as degrees, are certified by a Canadian notary. Some documents need a provincial certification first, and we confirm this for your province.
- Global Affairs Canada authentication. The federal authority authenticates the notary's or official's signature; for documents from some provinces the designated provincial authority does this instead.
- UAE Embassy in Ottawa. The embassy legalizes the document and adds the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) attestation digitally, so no separate MOFA step is normally needed in the UAE.
Canadian documents in French, and any document a UAE authority wants in Arabic, are translated by our MOJ-certified legal translators after legalization. See UAE Embassy attestation for the digital certificate and how to verify it, and MOFA attestation for the UAE side.
Which Province Issued It? Why We Ask First
With Canadian documents the province matters more than anything else, because it decides whether Global Affairs Canada or a provincial office authenticates the document, and whether a provincial certification is needed before that. So the first thing we ask when you send the photo on WhatsApp is where the document was issued; the written quote, within 10–30 minutes, is based on that province's rules.
The original can be couriered from Canada or handed in at our Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or Ras Al Khaimah office. We coordinate the notary, the authentication and the UAE Embassy in Ottawa, you follow progress online, and the attested document comes back to your door or our office. Documents from other countries are covered on our attestation services overview.
