A Power of Attorney (POA) is a legal document that authorizes an individual to act on behalf of another in personal, financial, or business matters. Whether you need to delegate authority for property management, financial transactions, or legal representation, Wordcraft provides expertly drafted and notarized POA documents in compliance with UAE regulations.

Why is a Power of Attorney Important?

  • Business & Corporate Affairs: Granting authority for business operations, contracts, and decision-making.
  • Financial & Banking Transactions: Allowing authorized individuals to manage accounts, loans, and financial assets.
  • Legal Representation: Appointing a lawyer or legal representative for court cases or administrative matters.
  • Personal & Family Matters: Delegating authority for guardianship, visa processing, or medical decisions.

Documents You Need

  • The powers you want to give, and the full details of the attorney (the person receiving the power)
  • The original Emirates ID of every signatory (residents), or the original passport (non-residents and visitors)
  • The attorney's passport or Emirates ID copy
  • For property, vehicle or bank POAs: the title deed, vehicle registration or account details
  • For company POAs: the trade licence, MOA and a board resolution authorising the POA
  • An Arabic translation or a bilingual Arabic–English version, if the document is not already in Arabic — we prepare it for you

How It Works — Step by Step

  1. Tell us what you need on WhatsApp or email, or visit any of our four offices — Dubai HQ (Al Twar), Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or Ras Al Khaimah — and get a free quote within 10–30 minutes.
  2. Drafting — we word the POA in Arabic and English so the powers are neither too narrow nor too broad, and send it for your review.
  3. Notary appointment — we book the session in person or by video through the competent notary platform (for example Dubai Courts, the Ministry of Justice e-Notary service or the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department) and check IDs beforehand.
  4. Signing — you sign or confirm the document in front of the notary, who verifies identity and applies the notary seal.
  5. Collection or delivery — collect the notarized document at the notary or receive it through our free delivery. If it will be used abroad, we can arrange MOFA attestation and embassy legalization.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a general and a special POA?

A general POA lets the attorney act on your behalf in a wide range of matters, while a special POA is limited to specific tasks — for example selling one property or handling one court case. We help you choose the right scope.

Can I notarize a document without a valid Emirates ID?

Yes. Dubai Courts notarization requires a valid Emirates ID. Without one (for example, if you are a visitor, a non-resident or your ID has expired), we arrange notarization through the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) with your passport, usually by video. We confirm the route for your case before booking.

Does the document need to be in Arabic?

UAE notaries work in Arabic, so non-Arabic documents are usually prepared bilingually or with a certified Arabic legal translation, which we provide.

Will a UAE-notarized document be accepted abroad?

Usually it also needs MOFA attestation and legalization by the destination country's embassy. We confirm the route for your country before notarization.

How to Get a Power of Attorney in the UAE in 5 Steps

To get a power of attorney in the UAE, decide exactly what your agent may do, have the POA drafted in Arabic or in Arabic and English, sign it before a UAE notary (in person or by video) or before a notary abroad followed by legalization, and then hand the notarized POA to the authority that will act on it.

  1. Choose the type and list the powers. General or special; name the property, vehicle, account or case if there is one. The comparison table on this page shows which type each authority expects.
  2. Draft it bilingually. UAE notaries work in Arabic, and every name must match the passport or Emirates ID letter for letter.
  3. Pick where to sign. In person at Dubai Courts, ADJD, the Sharjah or RAK courts, or a licensed private notary. Online through the Dubai Courts smart notary (UAE PASS), the MOJ e-Notary and its digital POA service, or ADJD's remote and automated services. From abroad: a local notary, your country's authentication, then the UAE embassy, which now completes MOFA attestation digitally, followed by Arabic legal translation.
  4. Sign before the notary. Each principal proves identity and confirms the POA; the notarized POA is usually issued as a digital document.
  5. Put it to use. The agent presents it to the Dubai Land Department, the RTA, the bank or the court. For use in another country, MOFA attestation and that country's embassy come first.

More Questions About Power of Attorney

Can I issue a POA online while I am outside the UAE?

Often, yes: the MOJ e-Notary runs video sessions for signatories abroad who identify with a passport, where the document and the receiving authority allow it. If they do not, you sign at a notary where you live and legalize the POA through the UAE embassy.

How long does it take to get a POA?

The notary session itself is short. The time goes into drafting, collecting supporting papers and getting a slot, so your written quote gives the expected timing for your route rather than a standard promise.

Is a POA made in the UAE valid in another country?

Not automatically. It needs MOFA attestation (digital) and the destination country's embassy or consulate, and some countries add their own registration or stamping. India is a common example: see UAE power of attorney for India.

Can one POA name two agents?

Yes. A POA can appoint more than one agent, and it should say whether they must act together or whether each may act alone. Leaving that out is a common reason for a bank or registry to query the document.

POA Issued Abroad for Use in the UAE

If you are outside the UAE, you can sign by video through a UAE e-notary platform where eligible, or sign at a notary in your country. The foreign route is: local notary → home-country authentication → UAE embassy or consulate, which now completes the UAE MOFA attestation digitally in the same step → Arabic legal translation by an MOJ-certified translator. The UAE is not an Apostille member, so an apostille alone is not accepted. Full guide: POA from abroad for use in the UAE.

UAE POA for Use Abroad

A POA signed in the UAE for property, bank or family matters in India, Pakistan, the Philippines, the UK or elsewhere follows the reverse chain: UAE notary → MOFA attestation (digital, verifiable online) → the destination country's embassy or consulate in the UAE, plus translation if the destination needs it. We draft the POA in the destination's expected wording first, then run the chain. See notarization for use abroad.

Cancelling a POA

You can usually revoke a POA at any time through a notarized revocation, then notify the agent and every bank or authority that holds a copy, including the Dubai Land Department for property POAs. A POA granted in favor of the agent or a third party (for example an irrevocable sale POA) generally cannot be revoked without the beneficiary's consent or a court decision. Details: cancel a power of attorney.

POA Validity and Wording Rules

  • Validity: it depends on the notary. An ADJD POA has a fixed term, while a Dubai Courts or MOJ POA lasts until it is revoked or reaches an end date it states. See POA validity in the UAE.
  • Language: UAE notaries work in Arabic, so POAs are drafted bilingually or translated by an MOJ-certified legal translator.
  • Names: must match passports and Emirates IDs exactly; a single spelling difference can stop a transaction.
  • Powers: every act must be stated; powers to receive money, delegate or litigate are never assumed.
  • Assets: property, vehicles and accounts should be identified by their official numbers.
