A power of attorney from abroad for use in the UAE is signed in your home country and then used by an agent in Dubai or another emirate to handle property, company, bank or court matters. UAE authorities accept it only after local notarization, home-country authentication, UAE embassy legalization and Arabic legal translation. Wordcraft drafts it bilingually, maps your country's chain and provides the MOJ-certified legal translation.

The Route: Home Notary, Foreign Ministry, UAE Embassy (MOFA Done Digitally)

  1. Draft: we prepare the POA in Arabic and English so the text UAE offices read is right from the outset.
  2. Local notary: you sign before a notary public, or a solicitor where that is local practice.
  3. Home-country authentication: the state or federal authority and/or the foreign ministry authenticates the notary's signature, as your country requires.
  4. UAE embassy or consulate: legalizes the POA and now completes the UAE MOFA attestation digitally in the same step, so in most cases no separate MOFA visit is needed in the UAE.
  5. Arabic legal translation: by an MOJ-certified legal translator in the UAE, unless the POA is already bilingual and accepted as it is.

An apostille from your country does not replace the embassy step, because the UAE has not joined the Apostille Convention. More on this in embassy attestation and our apostille note. The digital attestation can be verified online through the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Skipping the Chain: Signing by Video With a UAE Notary

For many POAs the foreign chain is not needed at all. UAE e-notary platforms, including the Ministry of Justice e-Notary and the Dubai Courts smart notary, let parties join a video session and sign electronically. Dubai Courts requires a valid Emirates ID, so non-residents without one sign through the Ministry of Justice e-Notary, identified by passport. We prepare the document, book the session and stay with you on the call; see online notarization. Some authorities or transactions still insist on a POA signed in person, and your quote says which route fits.

Why the Arabic Translation Comes Last

UAE courts, the Dubai Land Department, banks and ministries work in Arabic. A POA in English, Hindi, Urdu, Tagalog or any other language is translated into Arabic after legalization, so the stamps and embassy certificate are translated too. Our power of attorney translation team does this, and drafting the POA bilingually before you sign makes the step shorter.

How the Chain Looks in Five Countries

CountryTypical chain before UAE use (confirmed per case)
IndiaNotary → state authority where required → Ministry of External Affairs → UAE Embassy New Delhi or a UAE consulate
United KingdomSolicitor or notary → FCDO → UAE Embassy London
United StatesNotary → county / Secretary of State → US Department of State → UAE Embassy Washington
PakistanNotary → Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs → UAE Embassy Islamabad
PhilippinesNotary → DFA authentication → UAE Embassy Manila

Embassy procedures change, and some embassies work through outsourced centers, so the exact route for your country is confirmed in your quote. Once in the UAE, the POA is used like any locally notarized power of attorney.

What We Need From You and Your Agent

  • Your passport, plus your Emirates ID if you hold or held UAE residency
  • A copy of the UAE agent's passport or Emirates ID
  • Details of what the agent will handle: title deed, trade license, vehicle registration, account or case number
  • Any requirements the receiving office has already given you

Working With Us From Another Time Zone

Message us on WhatsApp or email from wherever you are. Within 10–30 minutes you receive a free written quote recommending either a video session or the foreign chain. After secure online payment, we send the bilingual POA with written instructions for your local notary. Once the legalized original reaches the UAE, we translate it and hand it to your agent, with the final file sent to you online. We do not notarize; that happens before your local notary or a UAE e-notary.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a POA made abroad valid in the UAE?

Yes, once it has been notarized, authenticated in the issuing country, legalized by the UAE embassy (MOFA attestation included, digitally) and translated into Arabic.

Is an apostilled POA accepted in the UAE?

Not by itself. The apostille covers only your country's internal step; the POA still has to be legalized by the UAE embassy or consulate.

Can I sign a UAE POA by video instead?

Often, yes: through the Ministry of Justice e-Notary, identified by your passport. We check whether your document and receiving authority allow it.

Is a separate MOFA attestation needed once the POA reaches the UAE?

In most cases no. Legalization at the UAE embassy now covers it, as a digital MOFA certificate.

Who translates the POA into Arabic?

Our MOJ-certified legal translators in the UAE translate the whole document, including stamps and certificates.
