UAE-Born Child: Birth Certificate Attestation Step by Step
If your child was born in the UAE, the birth certificate is a UAE document, so the route runs in the opposite direction to a foreign certificate. This is the order our branches follow for parents:
- Get the birth certificate issued. The hospital notifies the birth, and the certificate is issued by the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) or, in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, by the local health authority. Check that the names match the parents' passports before anything else.
- Health-authority verification, where required. Some certificates, older paper ones in particular, are verified by the issuing health authority before MOFA will attest them.
- MOFA attestation. A certificate with a QR code or reference number can be attested online, and any embassy can then verify the MOFA attestation.
- Your home-country embassy or consulate in the UAE, if you are registering the birth or applying for the child's passport, for example at the Indian or Philippine mission.
- Translation, if the embassy wants the Arabic text in English or in its own language.
