A student visa in the UAE is a residence visa for studying at a UAE university or college, sponsored either by the university or by a parent who lives in the UAE. Which route fits depends on your age, your parents' residence and the university's rules. Admission also needs attested certificates and often an equivalency, so Wordcraft handles the visa and the certificates together.

University Sponsorship vs Parent Sponsorship

Who sponsorsThe licensed university or collegeFather or mother with a valid UAE residence
Best forStudents coming from abroad, or sons above the family-sponsorship ageChildren of UAE residents who study locally

Who filesThe university's visa office, with the student's documentsThe parent, through GDRFA or ICP

Not every institution can sponsor visas, so check with your university first. If you already live in the UAE on your parent's visa, it is often simpler to keep that sponsorship while it is allowed.

Sons Over 18 and Students Over 25

Under the current rules, sons can generally be sponsored by their parents up to the age of 25, and unmarried daughters regardless of age. Once a son passes the family-sponsorship age limit, a university-sponsored student visa is usually the route while he continues studying or, for top performers, the Golden visa for outstanding students. We check the sponsor's conditions and the student's age before you apply, so the visa does not lapse in the middle of a semester. For the family-side rules, see family visa.

Documents for a Student Residence

  • Student's passport, valid for at least six months, and a recent photo
  • Admission or enrolment letter from the university
  • School-leaving or secondary certificate, and university degree for postgraduate study, attested for UAE use
  • Equivalency certificate where the university asks for one (MOHESR for degrees, the Ministry of Education for school certificates)
  • Transfer certificate for students moving from a school abroad, where requested
  • Health insurance meeting the rules of the emirate
  • For parent sponsorship: the parent's passport, visa, Emirates ID, salary certificate and tenancy contract, plus the attested birth certificate

Certificates issued abroad follow the home-country authentication and UAE embassy route, with the MOFA step now completed digitally. We handle degree certificate attestation and school certificates for more than 50 countries, and translate any document that is not in Arabic or English.

How a Student Visa Is Issued

  1. Route check: send the student's passport, admission letter and certificates on WhatsApp; we confirm university or parent sponsorship.
  2. Quote: a written quote in 10–30 minutes that includes certificate attestation and equivalency if needed.
  3. Attestation and equivalency: we collect originals free where needed and complete the attestation chain in time for admission.
  4. Visa filing: for parent sponsorship we file with GDRFA (Dubai) or ICP (other emirates); for university sponsorship we prepare the student's file for the university's visa office.
  5. Medical and Emirates ID: booked around the academic calendar.
  6. Visa issued: we deliver the documents and remind you before renewal.

Student Visa vs Golden Visa for Students

A regular student visa depends on your university or your parents and is renewed as you progress through your course. The Golden visa for outstanding students is self-sponsored and long-term, but it is only open to students and graduates with exceptional results and a nomination. If your grades are strong, ask us to check both before you apply; many families start with a student visa and move to the Golden visa after a strong graduation result.

Student residence services are listed by ICP and GDRFA Dubai.
