Divorce certificate attestation in the UAE lets a divorce granted in one country be relied on in another. The usual case is someone divorced abroad who wants to remarry in the UAE, change a family sponsorship or settle custody and child travel questions. A divorce from a UAE court may also need attesting before your home country records it. Wordcraft handles both directions, plus the legal translation, discreetly.

Where a Divorce Has to Be Proven

  • Remarriage in the UAE: the court or registrar handling the new marriage wants proof that the earlier one ended. Never married before? You need single status certificate attestation instead.
  • Residence and sponsorship, for example moving children to the other parent's sponsorship.
  • Custody, guardianship and travel consent matters before UAE courts.
  • Name changes on UAE records after a divorce.
  • Home-country registration of a UAE divorce, a passport update or remarriage abroad.

Final Decree or Interim Order: Which One to Attest

Courts and civil registries issue several papers during a divorce. For another country, what counts is the final decree, final judgment or divorce certificate that shows the marriage has ended. Interim orders, hearing notices and separation agreements rarely satisfy a UAE registrar. We check which paper you hold before any stamp is paid for.

Divorce Certificate Attestation Routes

Divorce granted abroad

Start with a certified copy of the final decree from the court or registry that issued it. Where that country requires it, a notary or another designated office certifies the copy, and the foreign ministry then authenticates it. The UAE Embassy or Consulate there legalizes the decree, and that legalization now contains the UAE MOFA attestation in digital form. Once the decree is in the UAE it is translated into Arabic.

Divorce granted by a UAE court

  1. A certified copy of the judgment or divorce certificate, with any further certification by the court that issued it.
  2. Digital MOFA attestation, which the foreign authority can verify online.
  3. Legalization by the embassy of the country where you will use it, when that country asks for it.
  4. Translation from Arabic into that country's language.

Why Divorce Papers Are Returned

  • An interim order was attested where the final decree was needed.
  • Pages are missing from the judgment, or the copy lacks the court's certification.
  • Names on the decree are spelled differently from the passport.
  • The divorce was recorded only by a religious body where the country also expects civil registration.
  • The translation leaves out stamps or marginal notes that appear on the attested copy.

Arabic Translation for UAE Courts and Registrars

UAE courts need foreign divorce decrees in Arabic, and UAE judgments, written in Arabic, need translating before they go abroad. Our court judgment translation, by MOJ-certified legal translators, covers the full decree and every stamp so the translation matches the attested original. Frequently Asked Questions

Can an interim divorce order be attested?

Sometimes it can, but it rarely proves the divorce. UAE registrars and most foreign authorities want the final decree.

Do I need my marriage certificate attested too?

Some courts ask for it alongside the decree. If yours does, we run it through marriage certificate attestation in the same batch.

Does a foreign divorce decree still need MOFA attestation in the UAE?

Usually not. The UAE Embassy that legalizes it abroad now adds the MOFA attestation digitally.

I married in one country and divorced in another. Which country attests the decree?

The country whose court or registry issued the divorce. The marriage certificate, if needed, follows its own country's route.

Is my information kept confidential?

Yes. Divorce files are seen only by the staff handling them, and we sign an NDA on request.

How long does divorce certificate attestation take?

That depends on the issuing country and court. We state the expected timing in your written quote.
