Vehicle Power of Attorney in Dubai & UAE

Away from the UAE when the car needs selling, renewing or exporting? A vehicle POA lets someone else stand at the RTA counter for you; we write it and arrange the notary.

A vehicle power of attorney in Dubai (car or RTA POA) lets another person sell your car, transfer its ownership, renew the mulkiya, settle fines or export it at the Roads and Transport Authority or another emirate's traffic department. Owners who are traveling, or who have already left the UAE, rely on it. Wordcraft drafts the POA in Arabic and English and arranges the notary, in person or by video.

What a Vehicle POA Covers

The POA lists each act the agent may carry out, for example:

  • Sale and ownership transfer: sign the sale, move the registration to the buyer and receive the price
  • Registration renewal: book the technical test, arrange insurance and renew the mulkiya
  • Fines and black points: pay fines, attend the traffic department and close files
  • Export or deregistration: obtain export plates and certificates when the car leaves the country
  • Plate transactions: retain, transfer or change number plates where the rules allow
  • Accident follow-up: deal with the insurer, the police report and the garage

Legally, a vehicle POA is a special power of attorney: one car, named acts. A broad general POA is often turned down at the traffic counter.

What the RTA Counter Looks For

Each traffic authority, including the RTA in Dubai, sets its own checklist and updates it from time to time. Staff typically check that:

  • The POA is notarized and, if signed abroad, legalized and translated into Arabic
  • Plate number, chassis (VIN), make, model and year match the registration card exactly
  • The owner's name matches the mulkiya; for a company car, the signatory's authority appears in the trade license and MOA
  • The transaction requested is written in the POA
  • The agent brings the original POA plus their own Emirates ID or passport

A financed car is a separate issue: the bank may have to issue a clearance or NOC before any sale or transfer, whatever the POA says. We confirm the current checklist with your quote.

Setting an End Date

For a one-off sale, many owners give the POA a short end date so it cannot be used again once the car is sold. Without one, how long it lasts depends on where it was notarized; see POA validity in the UAE.

What to Send Us for a Vehicle POA

  • Both sides of the mulkiya (vehicle registration card)
  • The owner's Emirates ID, or passport if the owner lives outside the UAE
  • The agent's name and ID copy, since they will present the POA at the counter
  • For company vehicles: trade license, MOA and the signatory's authority or a board resolution
  • The bank's clearance letter, if the car is under finance

From Mulkiya Photo to RTA Counter: Our Process

A photo of the mulkiya and your ID is enough to start. You get a free written quote in 10–30 minutes with the notary route; after secure online payment we prepare the bilingual draft with the vehicle details for your approval. You then sign in person, or by video through online notarization if you are away. The signature is notarized by a licensed notary or e-notary platform, not by us, and the notarized POA is sent to you and your agent.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can someone else sell my car in Dubai with a POA?

Yes, with a notarized vehicle POA that names the car and includes the power to sell and transfer ownership. At the counter, the agent shows the original POA and their own ID.

Can I give a car POA from outside the UAE?

Yes. A video session with a UAE e-notary works where the document is eligible. The alternative is a notary in your country, then legalization at the UAE embassy and an Arabic legal translation, explained on our POA from abroad page.

Does a general POA work at the RTA?

Often not. Traffic authorities usually want to see the specific vehicle and transaction in the text, which a vehicle POA provides.

Can a vehicle POA be used in another emirate?

A POA notarized in the UAE can normally be used in any emirate. Tell us where the car is registered and we check that traffic department's current requirements.

Can I cancel a vehicle POA?

Yes. Sign a notarized revocation and inform the agent, and the traffic authority if the POA was lodged there. See cancel a power of attorney.
