Experience certificate attestation in the UAE confirms that an employment letter is genuine, so an employer, licensing authority or immigration office will accept it as proof of your work history. Wordcraft attests letters from employers abroad for use in the UAE, and letters from UAE employers for use overseas. We read every letter before submission, because most rejections come from its content, not from the attestation itself.
What an Attested Experience Letter Proves
An experience certificate (also called an employment certificate, service certificate or experience letter) is written by an employer and states your position, your dates of employment and often your duties. Attestation adds a chain of official confirmations that the employer exists and the signature is real. Because the letter is a private document, the signature is certified first, by a notary, a chamber of commerce or another body depending on the country, and only then can a foreign ministry and an embassy attest it.
Which UAE Employers and Authorities Ask for It
- Work permits and job offers where the employer or the job title calls for proven experience; see our notes on the UAE employment visa.
- Professional licensing: engineers, teachers and other regulated professions often file attested experience letters with their license applications, usually alongside educational certificate attestation.
- Health professionals applying to DHA, DOH or MOHAP. These authorities verify credentials through their own primary source verification (PSV), which is separate from attestation, although some employers still want an attested letter on file.
- Golden Visa and skilled-worker categories where work history supports the application.
- Going abroad: UAE experience letters for jobs, licensing boards or migration files overseas, whenever the receiving authority asks for legalized documents.
Attestation Route: Issued Abroad vs Issued in the UAE
Experience letter issued abroad, for use in the UAE
- The employer's signature is certified in the issuing country by a notary, chamber of commerce or ministry, as local rules require.
- The foreign ministry of that country, or the authority it designates, authenticates the certification.
- The UAE Embassy or Consulate legalizes the letter and, in most countries, adds the UAE MOFA attestation digitally in the same step.
Experience letter issued in the UAE, for use abroad
- The letter is printed on company letterhead, signed and stamped by the employer.
- The employer's signature is certified by the relevant authority, usually the chamber of commerce for mainland companies or the free zone authority for free zone companies; the exact step varies by emirate and employer.
- The letter receives digital MOFA attestation, which can be verified online.
- The embassy of the destination country in the UAE legalizes it, if that country requires legalization.
Your quote spells out the route for your employer's country or emirate.
What the Letter Must Show Before We Submit It
- Company letterhead with the employer's address and contact details
- Your full name exactly as it appears in your passport
- Job title, start date and end date (or "currently employed")
- The signatory's name and designation, a signature and the company stamp
- For UAE-issued letters, a copy of the employer's trade license if the chamber or free zone asks for it
We also need a copy of your passport and the name of the authority or country that will receive the letter. If a detail is missing, it is far quicker to get a corrected letter from the employer now than after a rejection.
When the Letter Needs an Arabic Translation
Many UAE authorities accept experience letters in English, but letters in other languages, and some licensing files, need a legal translation into Arabic. Our legal translation service in Dubai, run by MOJ-certified legal translators, translates the attested letter together with its stamps so the translation mirrors the original.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my experience certificate rejected for attestation?
The usual causes are a letter without letterhead, stamp or signatory name, a name that does not match the passport, missing employment dates, or an employer whose signature cannot be verified. We check each of these before submission.
Can I attest an experience letter from a company that has closed?
It is harder, because nobody may be able to confirm the signature any more. Tell us the situation: depending on the country, an alternative route or supporting document may exist, and we say what is possible before you pay.
Is experience certificate attestation the same as DHA or DOH verification?
No. Health authorities check experience through their own primary source verification (PSV). Attestation is a separate legalization chain that some employers and authorities still request.
Once the UAE Embassy has legalized my foreign experience letter, is MOFA still needed?
Usually not. The UAE Embassy in the issuing country now adds the MOFA attestation digitally when it legalizes the letter, so it can go straight to your employer or licensing authority.
How long does experience certificate attestation take?
A letter that first needs chamber or notary certification abroad takes longer than one that does not. Once we know the issuing country and employer, the quote gives you the expected timing.
