What the Language Pages Cover

Every linked language has its own guide covering the documents we receive most often from that country, the attestation route there and the UAE authorities that take the translation. Start with the page for the country that issued your document; India's regional languages are gathered on the Indian languages page. If you know the document type better than the language, browse by type on the document translation hub.

Rare Languages and Dialects

Some documents use languages or scripts few translators read: old Ottoman Turkish, handwritten Dari, regional Indian scripts, Ge'ez-script Amharic or Tigrinya records, or police statements full of dialect. For these we bring in a native linguist of the source language to work with our legal translation team, and the final Arabic or English version is certified in the normal way. Rare pairs may need extra time, and the quote says so upfront. For spoken communication in these languages at meetings, notary appointments or hearings, see our interpretation services.

Arabic, English or Both: Choosing the Target Language

Most documents go from the source language into Arabic, English or both. Which one depends on the reader:

  • Arabic for onshore UAE courts, public prosecution, police and most notary files, and whenever a government department asks.
  • English for many free zones, the DIFC and ADGM courts, banks and employers, and some visa and licensing files.
  • Both when one document serves several purposes, such as a birth certificate used for a visa file and a school place.
  • Into your own language when a UAE Arabic document is needed back home, such as a death certificate, marriage contract or judgment.

Name the receiving authority and the quote will recommend a target language. See also legal translation in Dubai and all our translation services.
